"We must help the child to liberate himself from his defects without making him feel his weakness." - Dr. Maria Montessori

About Us

Maria Montessori Academy was established in 1983 and is operated by the International Association of Progressive Montessorians (IAPM) a non-profit organization to foster the spread and development of Montessori education.

Maria Montessori Academy offers children from preschool to grade 9, with plans to expand to grade 12, a Christian learning environment within a family like setting. The traditional Montessori environment helps children learn at their own pace through self-directed learning while fulfilling the BC educational curriculum.  The hands on interactive approach and low student teacher ratio encourage children to reach their full potential and foster a love of learning.

The Montessori Preschool has both full and half day programs that are a natural introduction to the elementary classes. In addition to their Montessori classrooms, the elementary and middle school aged children are involved in specialized programs in French, music, art, physical education and information technology.

Mission

The Academy, in carrying out the work of the society holds the fundamental belief that a child's learning; integrating the physical, spiritual and cognitive dimensions, is guided by the child's absorbent mind at work in the world. This process can be facilitated through self-directed activity conducted in a prepared environment, assisted by trained Montessori directresses or directors. In accordance with this belief is a faith that each child, so guided, will reveal his or her true self and as a creation of God, each child is deserving of deep love and respect. The uniqueness of the educational approach of the Academy is to be found in the manner in which this understanding is manifested in the day to day activity of the school.
