A special thank you to all the people that have volunteered so far this year at the school: driving for field trips, in the library, Book Fairs, Pizza Days, Parent Group, Open House, lawn cutting, creating the new parking lot, baking, sewing and so much more. You are helping to create a wonderfully enriched environment for your children. We are always looking for parents and people in the community to volunteer with us. Below are a number of ways you or someone you know can get involved.

Are you a parent who wants to get more involved in MMA? We are looking for parents to join the following committees (each committee meets once per month):

Marketing Advisory Committee
We are looking for volunteers to join the Marketing Advisory Committee. The Marketing Advisory Committee has been created to provide assistance to the Board in the areas of marketing, advertising and branding of Maria Montessori Academy. It will be the responsibility of this committee to ensure that the Maria Montessori Academy brand is consistent across all media, to develop and maintain the current website, organize and market the importance of a Montessori education and help with recruitment, design and development of new e-newsletter, as well as overall PR and marketing tasks as needed.

The Marketing Advisory Committee will consist of 1 Chair and up to 6 additional members. We are looking for members who are either parents of current or past students, or individuals in the community who can bring special skills or abilities to the committee. Members would be expected to commit to a minimum of a one-year term, and be available to meet once per month, or as needed.

Fundraising Advisory Committee
We are looking for volunteers to join the Fundraising Advisory Committee. This committee has been created to find opportunities to improve financing of Maria Montessori Academy’s operations. We are responsible for donor programs, special events, fundraising campaigns, and the website content for fundraising/donors.

If you are a current or past parent, or a community member, can commit to a 2 year term, and are interested in doing some great things for Maria Montessori Academy in 2009 and beyond, please let us know. Meetings will be held once per month starting in January 2009.

You may ask “What is the difference between the Parent Group and this Committee?”. This committee will be more outward based, while the Parent Group focuses more on the inward school community.

Do you know someone who would make a great addition to the IAPM Board? We are looking for non-parents to join.

The Board of the International Association of Progressive Montessorians is seeking dedicated volunteers to join the Board to help promote the awareness of Montessori education. We ask members for a two-year commitment to aid in the operation of the school and increase awareness and education to the general public about the Montessori method. If you know of someone who has an understanding of the Montessori educational philosophy and has professional or personal talents they would like to lend to our Association, we would like an opportunity to meet with them. Candidates who are chosen to stand for membership will be asked to interview with the Board. Please have them email us at board@montessori.bc.ca.
